Measuring Bandwidth Usage (AWStats)
Measuring Bandwidth Usage (AWStats)
Solution
We are often asked why the bandwidth reported by AWStats does not match the bandwidth reported in total traffic used by a website.
A Website will generate traffic from 3 main services: these are email, HTTP and FTP.
You can check total traffic on your Control Panel by clicking the magnifying glass beside the words "Total Traffic" you will see the breakdown here by email, HTTP and FTP.
If you send lots of mailing lists using our SMTP server, this figure can be high.
The bandwidth figure shown in AWStats does not include all HTTP traffic, it will only show the traffic that is pertinant to the statistics it reports on for example if you regularly update and download Actinic using HTTP this usage will be added to the HTTP figure in the left hand nav figures but not within AWStats.
The true figure of your sites usage is the figure in the left hand nav, this is the figure we use for charging. Awstats reports a subset of HTTP traffic.
